Therapy as Individual as You Are
I am an experienced counsellor and psychotherapist working in central Exeter for clients across Devon. I also offer online counselling throughout the UK. I offer individual therapy for children, young people and adults as well as couples counselling and family therapy.
Everyone deserves a safe space to be heard and to work through what is going on for them. Despite what you may think, there is no such thing as a 'typical' counsellor. I am down to earth, try to make you feel at ease and will not use fancy jargon. Friends and family can help to a point but you may struggle to open up to them fully.
Taking the first step can be hard and even feel intimidating. Maybe you have considered having counselling several times but put it off for various reasons. Once you have made the decision to go ahead I am committed to making you feel at ease. You have the option of an introductory telephone call where you can ask any questions that you may have about the process.
There is no one size fits all approach in counselling or psychotherapy, I am here to listen and work on what will help you.
Be genuine and honest with you
Be approachable and down to earth
Listen to you without judgement
Help you make sense of your feelings
Not be afraid to gently challenge you
Welcome any real language (even if it is swearing), I want you to be comfortable being you
Only ask questions that are relevant, not just because I am interested in the answer
Stay up to date in my skills and training,
Tell you what to do
Expect you to be anyone but yourself
Continually ask "How do you feel about that?"
Nod at you constantly
Sit and stare at you in silence until it becomes awkward
Talk to you about my own problems or make comparisons between our lives
Pretend to be someone that I am not, it is important that we both 'show up' as ourselves
Ask you to tell me information about yourself that isn't relevant
You can expect me to:-
What I won't do:-

My door (or online space) is open no matter what you are struggling with.
Counselling and Psychotherapy offers a safe space for young people and adults to sort through thoughts, untangle complex emotions and to make sense of things that are happening in their life when it all feels a bit jumbled up.
Therapy can help when life has got you in a bit of a muddle by unravelling what is going on for you one thread at a time.
